Keeping track

So I am 24 and one half week pregnant. About 5 and a half months. Due date is October 30, 2009.
I want to start a blog for myself to keep track of dates etc that stuff is happening.
Well here's the info for the past 24 weeks...
I found out the beginning of March that I was pregnant. I went off of birth control in January, and waited a couple months before trying to get pregnant. I don't know exactly the date of conception but technically it is counted from January 30 since my last period started January 23. Probably sometime around the 7 of February. Before getting pregnant, I had decided to loose some weight. In November I started keeping a food diary and lost almost ten pounds. Then in January I joined a gym and lost five more.
We went on a trip to Montreal around the 18 of Febrary. My period should have started the 20th if it was on time, but it would have probably still been a few days later because of going off of the pill. I took an early detection test but it came up negative (probably too early to tell). So I thought I wasn't pregnant. I started my new job the next week, working at the Library.
I didn't think to much about it, but obviously I didn't get my period... In fact, I didn't really think about it again until I think it was the first week of March. I took a test. Positive. Took another one. Positive. I thought maybe I did it wrong the first time... but now I realize its not likely to receive a false positive.
Obviously I had a false negative earlier... Silly me.
So I made an appointment to see my doctor right away. Confirmed what I already knew. I was five weeks pregnant. Oops, hope that trip to Montreal didn't affect things too much... The doctor said not to worry.
I saw the doctor again about a month later. My husband came with me this time. I was barely ten weeks so we tried to hear the heartbeat but no luck.
I scheduled my IPS, the testing to find out my risk factor for neural tube defects such as downs syndrome. I also scheduled an appointment to see my family doctor again because I did not yet have an obstetrician.
I recieved a call a week or two later and I was able to get in to see an OBGYN... Dr McFaul. So I cancelled with my regular doctor and from then on I have been seeing McFaul.
I was a little worried because she didn't have the greatest reviews on rateyourmd.com. I was pleasently surprised that everything was fine after the first visit. I had my IPS and everything was fine, virtually no risk for any of the defects that they test for. Included in the testing was my first ultrasound. My husband came with me, and we were both very excited. It was April 24, so I was maybe 12 weeks pregnant. We couldn't believe how much that it was already a little baby. He bucked around and moved like crazy. The technition said it was sucking its thumb.
It was around this time that I started feeling movement. Just little bubblies in my tummy. I was laying in bed by myself, as my husband was out playing floor hockey as he did Sunday nights. I wasn't sure if it was the baby moving, but now that I know what it feels like for sure, it definitely was it.
I haven't mentioned my nausea yet. It started around 6 weeks I think, and lasted all day, every day until the end of April, just when I was starting my new position at the bank, when I was about 3 months pregnant. It was a rough 6-8 weeks. I was lucky enough to be able to keep food down, in fact any hunger that I had made the nausea about a million times worse so I made sure to keep eating. I was so relieved when it went away, since my mother had had morning sickness every day for every one of her 5 pregnancies. Brutal!
Since the beginning of May I have felt pretty fantastic. A bit of back pain, and of course I have needed extra sleep. Work has been interesting, seeing as I started a new part time job just as I found out that I was expecting. It is a fairly physical job (putting away books is much harder on the body than it probably sounds) and when I had the nausea it was almost impossible. I called in sick a few times and had to change my shifts. I also started a new position at my main job, but have been really happy with that. Especially because it coincided with the end of my sickness.
We start our prenatal classes next Monday. We are taking them every Monday evening for six weeks. I have been feeling a little disconnected from the OBGYN, so I am hoping this class gives me all the info I need to feel comfortable going into the hospital. By the way, the doctor IS fine, but I just dont feel like we connect on any level. I go in for my monthly appointments and the only thing she really seems to care about is my weight. She told me from the beginning that I should only gain 15lbs because I had a BMI of 25.8, just barely into the slightly overweight area when I first became pregnant. Not that I WANT to gain a lot of weight, but as I mentioned at the beginning, I did loose some weight before becoming pregnant, and during my sickness eary on I did stop working out. I still walk my dog etc, but I stopped going to the gym to run. Then my gym went out of business so I haven't been back!
At my last appointment, I had gained 11 lbs (23 weeks pregnant). If I was in the normal range for BMI, this would have been totally ok. But apparently I should slow down on this. So, I am going to try to take it easy on the McDonalds:) but really I feel good, and everything looks healthy, so I am not going to beat myself up too much over it.
I have to get my gestational diabetes testing done at the end of the month, so hopefully that goes ok. My next doctors appointment is August 10.
Well now I feel better, now that I have the details out of my mind and onto page. I would like to keep updating so that I don't forget all these details...
